"Please cut the rough and protect your investment in the greens."
We faced staffing challenges this summer, which led to the grounds team having to prioritize certain tasks. However, we are actively recruiting and working to rebuild our grounds maintenance team. Anyone interested in excellent employment opportunities can view our current vacancies here.
Fitness, Sports & Aquatics
"I was disappointed to see so few Zumba classes being offered at the center."
We are currently without our regular instructor and have been unable to secure a substitute. We are actively searching for a new instructor and hope to have the class added back to the schedule soon.
"I would like to see additional free weights, overhead press and a dual pulley system. I highly recommend getting EZ bars (fixed). They’re versatile, easy to use, and can really elevate any workout space."
We are in the process of ordering new equipment. We are also evaluating more options, including your recommendation for EZ bars, additional free weights and a new cable system. We’ll keep your suggestions in mind as we plan for future upgrades. Thank you so much for your thoughtful suggestion!
"During the weekends in colder weather, the heat isn’t turned on in the gym making working out and playing basketball very difficult."
The heating issue has been resolved inside of the gym as the air handler that was blowing cold air into the facility has since been turned off for the winter months. Unfortuantely, there is no heat in the basketball court at this time due to deteriorated heat strips. We are waiting for the unit to be replaced.
"The gym still doesn't provide towels, and when I asked, they said it’s due to COVID—seems like a lame excuse since it’s been years. I’ve visited other NAS bases, including NAS Fallon, and they all provide towels, so it's frustrating that JAX doesn’t follow suit."
Thank you for your request regarding towels. While COVID was initially the reason we stopped providing them, the main factors preventing us from reintroducing towels are budget constraints and the ability to properly wash and turn them over quickly. At this time, we do not plan to bring them back.
Freedom Lanes Bowling & Entertainment Center
"Please have some left-handed bowling balls handy for those folks who are left handed because not everyone can use a right handed bowling ball."
Our house bowling balls are suitable for both right and left handed bowlers. No matter your preference, anyone can enjoy using them during your experience. If you do want a bowling ball made-to-fit, please visit our Pro Shop.
"Would like to see the Snack Bar get back to full service and regular menu."
We continue to increase offerings at the Strike ZOne Grill while we await funding to replace the hood system. Once the hood system has been replaced, we can reinstall the griddle and fryer. The previous hood system was determined to be improperly installed and unsafe for use.
"I am wondering why there are no bowling specials on the website anymore."

"I'd like it if I could book online so I can look at the calendar. Sometimes I can plan ahead but mostly if I get a weekend off, it's last minute and I'd like to be able to check the availability."
